Learning their lingo and pronunciation is essential for communication

Like with most places, lingo is formed and accents have evolved over time. However, Texan’s have a particularly difficult lingo to grasp and if you want to communicate with the locals properly, it might be worth learning some of their lingo. For example, asking for a ‘soda’ or ‘pop’ will give you nothing but raised eyebrows. In Texas, all carbonated soft drinks are known as ‘Cokes’, whether you want a 7up, Mountain Dew, or even a Pepsi. The only exception to this is Dr Pepper! Help yourself by learning some of the lingo and pronunciation so that communication won’t become an issue.

There’s no rush in Texas

You’ll notice pretty much on arrival that nobody in Dallas is going to be in a rush, and neither should you! Take your time to absorb this incredible city! Arriving late at night and don’t fancy a long drive to your hotel? No worries! Grab a DFW airport hotel with shuttle and settle in for the night, refresh those tired eyes, and start again the next day!

The weather can be dangerous

In general, the seasons of Dallas are pretty much as you’d expect them to be: cold in the winter and hot in the summer. However, Texas, in general, has been hit pretty hard with freak weather storms, and it’s important to be aware of this and know what the safety procedures are when the weather gets bad in Dallas. We’re not saying that this will happen, but knowing what to do will help you stay calm and get yourself to safety.

The people are lovely and will expect you to be as well

A well-known fact about Texans is that they’re some of the loveliest people you’ll ever meet. So, if someone smiles or waves at you, put your suspicions away! They’re not trying to sell you anything, they’re simply being friendly! Just be careful not to get too friendly unless you fancy a hotel room full of new Texan friends ready for dinner with you. Another tidbit to keep in the back of your mind is that if they’re friendly to you, they’ll expect you to do the same in return.

Dallas is home to the largest art district in the nation

A surprising yet interesting fact is that Dallas is home to the largest art district in the nation. That’s right, not New York, not Los Angeles – Dallas! Spread over a whopping 19 blocks with museums, venues, and galleries, you could spend days gawking at their exhibits.
