Styling a Farmhouse Hutch with Vintage Christmas Decor

Every season I like to change up not only my home decor, but the decor in my hutches as well. If you know me, you know I have several hutches in my home full of treasures from ironstone to old cameras and more. For Christmas, to update the look of my hutches, I like to add vintage Christmas decor treasures! Vintage Christmas decor can be anything from old vintage blow molds, to Santa cups, figurines, and more. Take a look at my hutch to inspire your own farmhouse vintage Christmas hutch decor!

First, to fill the hutch with vintage Christmas treasures, you need to go thrifting. Check out my post here on how to thrift for farmhouse antiques and vintage decor. I went looking for vintage Santa blow molds, old vintage Santa mugs, and vintage elves. Here is a look at the items I found for this room:

To style the hutch, just add these pieces throughout the hutch. Simple as that! The key is to have a theme. For my hutch, I sought out Santa, elves, and cute animals and stuck to either neutrals or reds. I like how spacing them out in the hutch adds a pop of color, but by using the same elements in a pattern the whole hutch is tied together.

To create a pattern, try to think of the rule of 3s. I have 3 shelves in this hutch so I spaced the vintage Christmas decor between the 3 shelves. Each shelf has a couple Santa mugs since I have the most of that type of decor piece. I have 2 elves so I placed them in opposite corners of the top and bottom shelf. I also try to place the pieces in a zig zag pattern.

Notice that I don’t remove most of my existing decor. I try to decorate my farmhouse hutch with neutrals and whites so that when I add seasonal pieces the existing pieces still work well with the design. You can see how I style a farmhouse hutch with neutral vintage decor and antiques here. The only item I switched out was a regular platter for a “Merry Christmas” platter.

I also have added some vintage hymn sheets that have been rolled and tied. The last thing I add to my Christmas hutch is greens. Again, with the rule of 3s I space the greens out in a zig zag pattern, one on each of the 3 shelves.

It is as simple as that to update your hutch for Christmas. I hope this post on decorating a hutch with vintage Christmas decor helps you decorate your own hutch and home this holiday season.
