Setting a Neutral Farmhouse Thanksgiving Tablescape for Kids

Setting a kids table for Thanksgiving (or any holiday) can be both simple and beautiful while still using a neutral farmhouse color palette. I don’t want to use my nice ceramic dishes for the kids – accidents do happen – but I love the idea of still using real, white dinnerware and not paper plates or loud colorful plastic plates. Also, true to my style, I wanted to use rustic, neutral colors with faux pumpkins and greens as the centerpiece. One exception is the crayons for the kids to color with! I’ll show you how I set a neutral farmhouse table for the kids at Thanksgiving in this post, and hope to inspire your own kids tablescape this fall.

The first thing I always do when setting a table for kids is to cover the table. Instead of using something I would need to wash, I pickup $1 wrapping paper rolls from the craft store. These are usually the perfect width for a table runner, or you can layer them like I did here to cover the whole table. For this tablescape I used a kraft wrapping roll with white dots.

For the runner I pop down either a contrasting paper roll or a fabric runner (in this tablescape I am using fabric) and then layer it with my coordinating pieces. You can shop for some of my favorite decor pieces HERE.

For this Thanksgiving tablescape, since of course its fall, I used some faux greens and pumpkins I had around the house in my existing decor. I have a complete post on decorating with faux greens and pumpkins you can check out if you need tips.

Next, when setting a tablescape for kids I always place something for them to draw or color on. I picked up these cute placemats from Target for $3 for a set of 12. I love that the kids can write what they are thankful for and color the leaves while they are eating. We always go round the table on Thanksgiving and share one thing we are thankful for.

I use my favorite kids plates from Re-Play and layer and place them just like I would for any adult tablescape. I love Re-Play and use them everyday in my home, but I especially love them in a neutral table setting for the holidays and parties. Re-Play plates, bowls, utensils, and cups are made out of recycled HDPE plastic (recycled milk jugs) which is amazing – not only are they durable and gorgeous, but eco-friendly as well! You can order them in a variety of colors, but I prefer the white and always order what I need in that color. You can order sets or singles, so its easy to get exactly what you need in the quantity you need.

In these table settings I am using the 9″ dinner plates and the 20 oz bowls. The larger size is perfect for bigger meals like Thanksgiving! I use the 7″ plates and 12 oz bowls everyday for my kids. I use no-spill sippy cups for the younger kids and regular cups for the older kids.

In this table setting I am even using my 12 oz bowls to hold the crayons! Re-Play dishes clean up so well in the dishwasher (even though they are white!) that I use them for all kinds of things for the kids.

And that is it! It is so easy to set a beautiful, neutral farmhouse Thanksgiving tablescape for kids with some fun placemats, white plastic dishes, and faux pumpkins and greens.

I hope this inspires your own farmhouse tablescape for kids this Thanksgiving!
