When the time comes for you to sell your home and move on up the housing lader, you will want to know that you are going to get the maximum amount possible for your current home. You may have bought the house during a time when house prices were particularly high, and there may be a worry that there has not been enough of a change in the market value of the property. One of the biggest fears that many people have when it comes to selling up and moving on is that of falling into negative equity in their homes.

Being in a situation where your home is now worth less than you paid for it can leave you in an uncomfortable situation when it comes to moving on to somewhere bigger or better. However, it is not the end of the world and you can find a way of clawing back some of the value that your property has lost. You may even be able to build a decent profit into your sale if you carry out the right work to the property.

Make Space And Light

Your number one priority, until you sell your home, will be creating a more attractive prospect for any would-be buyers. This means that you interiors need to be light and spacious as is very often one of the things that are high on the list of most buyers.

Start by having a clear-out. If you need to, hire a junk removal firm to take away anything that you don’t want or need anymore. Then pack up anything that you will be taking to your next home, but are not needing for the time being. Similarly, pick out some unused furniture too. Find somewhere you can store these items until it is time to move. If you have a friend or family member who has the room to take these items off your hands for a while, take them up on it. Otherwise, it may be worth investing in a small storage unit to keep your items safe until you move.

Next up, paint all of your walls white. This will make everything bright and the rooms will all seem much bigger. Buyers will be looking for rooms that feel big, bright, and airy. Remove any heavy curtains, and pick lighter materials, or even use a roller blind.

Make Sure The Exteriors Look Good

You only get one chance to make a first impression, and often a buyer may have decided whether this is the home for them before they step foot inside. Don’t give them a chance to overlook your home as an option.  Make sure your garden is tidy, your windows clean, and any broken tiles have been replaced.

If the front of your home needs painting or whitewashing, be sure that you do this as a good looking home will have curb appeal and can attract people in to come and have a look.
