Prepare your home for summer with this essential to-do list
Summer is on the way, and with it comes the promise of warm sunshine, social gatherings at your home, and time away from work to relax and unwind. Start counting down the days now! However, to ensure your home is ready for the summer season, there are a few things you might want to do beforehand.
Check out our to-do list below to be sure to be prepared for summer!
1. Check your air-conditioning unit
While many of us enjoy the summer heat, it is still important to check the aircon, as that cool air can offer some solace when the temperatures rise. So, remove and clean the filters to ensure your system works at optimal power, and then fire it up to give it a trial run. If you discover your aircon isn’t working at full capacity, or horrors of horrors, isn’t working at all, get in touch with an HVAC repair service to put things right.
2. Clean your outdoor grill
Not many of us enjoy spending time in the kitchen on very hot days, not only because of the heat but because we could be enjoying more time on our patios and in our gardens. Eating outdoors is a must then, and especially if you are planning on entertaining guests this summer, you do need to give your outdoor grill a deep cleaning. It won’t be a pleasant job, especially if there is still residue on there from last summer, but follow these cleaning tips to make light work of this dirty job.
3. Prepare your outdoor living space
For starters, check your decking, and if there are any signs of rotting, consider replacing any problem boards. You might want to give it a good clean too before adding your outdoor furniture and plants, and using the advice here; it might also be time to seal your deck to keep it in good shape. With all that done, you can add your comfy chairs, dining furniture, and any plants or decor you might enjoy to liven up the space you will be relaxing in this summer.
4. Work on the garden
If your garden is overgrown, now is the time to get the mower and trimmer out. Cut your grass as and when you need to, and trim your bushes to keep them shipshape. Add layers of mulch to keep those pesky weeds at bay, and deadhead your perennials to keep them productive. And to ensure your flowers and plants thrive during the dry heat, start a weekly watering schedule to give them the nourishment that they need to survive. You won’t be able to enjoy them if you don’t!
5. Prepare your spare room
There are all kinds of things you can do with your spare room, especially over the summer. It could be a guest room, for example, so if your friends and family are making their annual pilgrimage, you should start stocking it up with furnishings now. You might also turn your spare room into a playroom for the kids, as while they can enjoy the great outdoors when playing, it still makes sense to have a space indoors for them to play when the weather gets too hot. You might also prepare it for yourself, perhaps as a home office, so you don’t have to commute to work in the heat, or a place to chill out and cool down when the sun gets too much for you. Get those fans at the ready and anything else you might need to use your spare room to its fullest potential.
Getting your home ready for the season is a chore, we know! However, the sooner you get your jobs done, the more time you will have to enjoy your home and garden, so don’t delay, get cracking now to ensure you are ready for the finer days of summer.
