Power Cut Games: Hunting Ghosts And Sketching Words
If you live in a small town or in a village out in the countryside, you should expect at least one or two power cuts this winter. It’s bound to happen when there’s been a heavy snowfall. When the snow melts, it will cause flash floods and power cuts will usually be unstoppable. So plan ahead and get these games ready. You’d be amazed how quickly our modern lives grind to a halt when we lose electricity. Your family will thank you a lot if and when the time comes to sit around in candle-lit rooms, bored out their minds.
Test your drawing skills
It’s an oldie but it has stood the test of time for a reason. Pictionary is a great game for multiple family members and or teams. Up to 4 teams of two can play this game. Light some candles and place them carefully around the room so everyone can see a pad in front of them. Hand out little notebooks to everyone along with some pencils. Using a random word generator, you will need to draw whatever comes up. One person in the team will need to draw and the other needs to guess what it is you’ve drawn. When the other member of a team guesses correctly, that team gets to roll a dice and move forward on the Pictionary board. The goal is to be the first team to get to the end. Everyone gets a chance to test their drawing skills and you never know what you will have to draw next.
Going ghost hunting
Ghost hunting is a brilliant way to pass the time. Light a candle and find your way to the pantry. For every two members in your household, give them one torch. This means that everybody needs to work in pairs. Meet up in the living room and roll a dice. You each have to pick a number and if it lands on yours, then you need to be the ghost. Be careful as you play this as you are walking around in the darkness for some of the time.
- Everyone else has to sit in the room without their torches on and count to 60. You must leave the room and use your torch to find yourself a nice hiding spot.
- When the count is up, the teams split up and try to find the ghost. The rule is, they can only put their torches on for five seconds at a time. They have to turn it off for another 5 and then if they wish, turn it on again for 5 seconds.
- This gives you time to try and sneak around, finding a new hiding spot if they get close. They can hear you, but they might not be able to see you.
- If they shine their torches on you, they found the ghost and the game has to restart.
It’s amazing how our lives become so dull without electricity. However, you can go on the hunt for a ghastly ghost, or test your inner artist in a game of Pictionary.
