Bookroo {an updated review of all 3 boxes}
I previously reviewed Bookroo for my 5 year old here. This time I’m taking a look at all 3 subscription boxes. 1. Early-readers (age 7-10) 2. Picture books (age 2-6) 3. Board books (age 0-2) Lets start with Emily’s box. This box is geared towards children age 7-10. Like the other boxes, the books come individually wrapped (which is so very exciting for children at any age!) Emily is 11, so I knew these books would be easy readers for her but we wanted to check them out anyways. The first book is “A Dragon’s Guide to the Care and Feeding of Humans,” by Laurence Yep and Joanne Ryder. Emily…

Bookroo {Children’s books delivered to your doorstep}
If you have been following along my posts about toys and books in our home, you know by now that we are big into imaginative playtime, and that includes lots of reading. Books are everything for our family. Whether it be a quiet moment alone, or a giggly snugly moment together, we all LOVE books. I find myself hunting the isles of bookstores rummaging through row after row of kids books, looking for just the right new book to bring home to my kids. It is actually quite the daunting task, which such a large selection of so many wonderful books to choose from. How do I find one that…

Creating a Playroom in a Closet {Organizing our Home}
Closets don’t always need to be closets. I’m sharing with you today a closet in our last home that we converted to a playroom, under our stairs! Before we purchased our current home, we lived in a smaller home with no playroom and no spare living space at all; I had to be creative. Though this project was something we did in our old home it is something that I really wanted to share with you today. In our old home, I had a small, long, low closet under our stairs which was home to a rotation of random bins, trash, bags, various cleaning supplies, and all around clutter. It…

Creating an Inviting and Organized Montessori Inspired Playroom
Three kids. Girl, age 10, Girl, age 5, Boy, age 1. How do I make this ONE space work for all three of them? This room, like all the other rooms in this house, was a blank slate (after we changed the paint, trim, and carpet when we first moved in). I wanted something neutral, so I decided to keep the grey that we painted the whole house in when we remodeled (See this post for more on paint colors in our home renovation). While we do have a lot of toys, I try to keep it fresh by donating toys we don’t play with often, and shopping for gently…

Sweets & Treats Birthday Party {DIY budget friendly parties for kids}
Emily asked for a sweets and treats party this year so of course the aspiring baker in me was happy to oblige! The main event for this DIY party would be a cookie decorating tutorial for Emily and her friends. They would be shown how to use a piping bag and then be able to decorate five or so cookies to take home. We also had an ice cream bar, played pin the cherry on the ice cream, had a candy jar full of M&Ms they had to guess the amount in the jar to win, and each made a sweet friendship bracelet. Most of the prep work was baking…

DIY White Farmhouse Kitchen Renovation
One of the most important spaces in a home is the kitchen. The kitchen is where you spend much of your time in here gathering as a family whether it be for meals, entertaining, or just because. Our kitchen was far from functional when we bought our home. It was small and outdated and because of the honey oak cabinets and black tile counters it was way too dark. To brighten and expand this space for our family we decided to tackle our kitchen renovation ourselves and completely DIY everything. This meant we would need to knock out cabinets, paint honey oak cabinets white, put in a subway tile backsplash,…

A Bright & Modern DIY White Farmhouse Kitchen Makeover
When we first moved into our home, this kitchen was an outdated, dark and small corner of our open floor plan that we felt needed to be brightened and opened up in order to create a larger, more modern and bright farmhouse kitchen. The cabinets and trim were a dark honey oak color, the counters were a large black shiny tile, and the kitchen was closed off by a large in-kitchen pantry cabinet that limited the counter space. By tearing out the cabinet, painting everything white and completely updating the kitchen with our DIY skills, our dream of a modern and bright white farmhouse kitchen became a reality. Here is…

How to Make a DIY Floral Naked Layered Cake
Cakes are typically the star of the birthday party, so making a beautifully decorated cake is definitely a must. Doing it yourself will save you tons of money over buying one special ordered AND you can have more control over the design and presentation. For Ashlyn’s fifth birthday I attempted a DIY floral naked layered cake for the first time to serve at her DIY Fairy Garden 5th Birthday Party. I decided to share my experience in a tutorial form here because it was a fairly simple process and turned out beautiful even though I have very limited baking skills. And if I can do it, I know any beginner…
