Organizing Board Games using Small Storage Cabinets with Wayfair.com

How many board games do you have stashed away in the closets of your home? 10? 20? 50 or more? In our family we have tons of board games – it is one of our favorite pastimes. In the past they have been stashed in the pantry, the closets, the garage, under beds, and even just in the corner of the room. We have a lovely family room in our home where we play games and puzzles, so I wanted to organize our games in that room so they would be easy to fetch when it was time for games.

The problem is where do you put so many games in a pretty and organized fashion? The answer is by using small storage cabinets! And Wayfair.com is my go-to when it comes to finding affordable furniture in a particular size and style since their selection is so vast. Take a peek at how I organized our family’s board games in our family room using this small white storage cabinet, and check out some of my other storage ideas for games below.

When selecting a cabinet for your space to organize your games, you need to look for a finish and style that matches your decor. I like farmhouse style furniture so I look for things with intricate doors like this cabinet – I love that the doors slide and have this window pattern on the front. I feel like it looks pretty and helps to mask the items inside.

The size is also very important. For my space, I needed something that would fit in a very small area next to the couch, behind our french doors – but would not block the doors from opening and closing. I measured my space and noted the minimum and maximum space I could use for my new cabinet, and began a search on Wayfair.

You can enter all your minimum and maximum dimensions in the filtered search, along with color and other options. I needed a cabinet that would be 12-15″ deep, 30-36″ wide, and 50-55″ tall and was looking for a white hutch with glass doors. I love that the search feature will really help you narrow down all those results so you can find the perfect storage cabinet to organize your space.

Once you find the perfect size, color, and style cabinet for your space, you are ready to organize! It is important to take note of the size of the games you will be organizing as well. The cabinet I found will hold most of the games but some of the larger boxes are turned sideways because they are too deep. I am totally fine with that because I needed a bookcase that I knew couldn’t be too deep.

Another important thing to consider when selecting a cabinet for organizing your games is whether or not you want some part of the cabinet to have hidden storage. This could be with a drawer or partially covered door, as with this unit, the bottom shelf is hidden when the unit is slid closed. I like this option in my bookcases with glass doors because I can put odds and ends here, magazines, books, etc and they won’t be shown through the glass.

Now we have an awesome little cabinet to hold our family games right in our family room. It makes it so much easier to find the game we need, and they feel so much more organized now that they are in one place rather than stashed all over the house. Take a look at some of these cabinets and get ready to organize your family’s board games!
