Maintaining your pool deck
Summer is almost in its full glory, and to that end, we start picturing the enjoyable time we’ll have with it. Relaxing in the garden, heading on vacation, summer barbecues, entertaining guests, and yes, on some days, fighting the heat. But for the most part any season is what you make of it, and summer often gives you the most options to consider when you think about what you want to do!
With all the options for summer to consider, there’s nothing that beats sitting next to a pool in summertime. Jumping in for a quick swim, playing pool games with your friends or family, or just relaxing next to the open water on a sundeck, working on that bronze tan. If you are lucky enough to have a pool in your yard, how do you care for it? How can you ensure this area of your outdoor space is perfected, something you can truly appreciate time after time? Well, here are a few tips on safety, stability and sanitation to help you create the perfect pool deck!
Safety
Of course, we’re not talking about covering your entire garden space in decking just for your pool, sometimes economy of space has to be considered, but for the most part, a large decking area can be worthwhile. This can give you the means to safely walk around the pool, to keep the area hygienic, and to support important fixtures such as sun loungers. Space can also prevent trip hazards if you space your items further enough away from them, meaning that pets, children and the elderly needn’t fear falling in accidentally, of course that order raising in priority in terms of how damaging that could be.
Stability
Just as the water level of the pool must be considered, ensuring the decking area is well considered can help any unexpected transitions in height when maneuvering around the decking area. A professionally laid, easy-to-clean and level surface such as concrete resurfacing can provide what you need. However, also be sure to consider the edges leading to the pool, because any sharpness here could also lead to injury.
Sanitation
At least once a year, it can be a great idea to have your deck power washed. Not only can this help remove built grime over the months, but it can also ensure you see your deck in its full beauty. Cover your pool well in the winter, and drain it should you need to. Stain and seal the deck if using wooden materials. Brush leaves and other natural debris from it, lest that collect. Ensure that it is even, that it is disinfected following any injuries, and that you find a means to keep your pets from conducting business on it. When you keep your pool deck clean, you can keep your summers enjoyable as intended.
With these tips, your pool deck is sure to truly shine.

Fab advice here. We don’t have. a pool over here, nobody really does in the UK, but this is really helpful to know because one day I plan on living in the sun!
