Laguna Beach – What’s Good?
When people think of LA, they think of the glitz, glam and the grime-crime series. Or, they think all the way back to one of the original reality TV shows – Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County.
So you’ve booked your flights or your car rental, you got the lowdown on vacation rentals in Laguna Beach, and you know exactly where you are staying, what next? It is time to get out there and explore the area. Of course, there is more to do than is listed here, but it is a great start.
Driftwood Kitchen
This cornerstone restaurant used to be called the Beach House. In fact, it was the Beach House for about 45 years. However, since the place in now in different hands, it had a makeover and a menu overhaul. Driftwood Kitchen is so close to the water, they like to stay “any closer, and you’d have to swim.” Of course, the specialty would be seafood. There is an adjacent bar called the Stateroom Bar mixing stunning cocktails. It is a must.
Tiny Religion
Well, actually this is more about the second smallest church in the world. In 1933, March 10th, Long Beach had a massive earthquake, and sadly 120 people lost their lives. The damage was a massive $50 million of damage. The second smallest church in the world was built using the rubble of the earthquake in the same year. It has a modest 42 seats and gorgeous stained glass. It is a significant local landmark despite its tiny size.
Laguna Art Museum
Around 300 feet from the ocean, Laguna Art Museum is very well known for its world-class exhibits. The cool thing about this place is it hosts local Cali artists and has a big collection of Californian art from the 19th to today.
Laguna Art Museum is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays: 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Thursdays, 11:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. Admission is $7. ***admission is free on the first Thursday of each month from 5-9pm during First Thursdays Art Walk, but regular admission applies on Thursdays otherwise. Admission is always free for museum members, visitors aged 17 and under, and for members of the military and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Pacific Marine Mammal Center
Despite the beautiful waters and beaches, there are still plenty of baby animals that get really sick. Sometimes they get trapped in fishing lures, ill with pneumonia, starving or accidentally beaching themselves. They need a lot of help and the Pacific Marine Mammal Center, which is a nonprofit business.
The public is free to visit the mammals that they are looking after, and although they don’t charge admission, a donation would be appreciated. Open 10-4 daily.
You know, although there is a lot to see and do, you can, of course, kick back with your favorite book and read for hours on the beach. The locals are friendly in most places, and you can be sure to find a great coffee or a healthy smoothie almost any time of the day.
