Keep Your Yard in Bloom with These Winter Flowers

If you want a beautiful garden that stays in bloom throughout winter then there are plenty of flowers you can plant. You could decorate your patio with flourishing hanging baskets, or fill the flowerbeds with color. Bring a little life into your garden for winter. Some of these flowers bloom in early November, and others stay on until spring. Your yard will stay fresh and full of color all season. Here are some winter flowers to brighten up your garden.

Winter pansies

Winter pansies are ideal for hanging baskets on your perfect patio. Give your patio a bit of a sprucing up and pressure washing if it needs it. You can then decorate it with colorful flowers. Pansies are perfect because they can grow in small pots and baskets and they even tolerate frost and a light freeze. They’ll also hold their own in wind and rain. They’re ideal for adding color to your winter displays and will probably out-bloom any other winter flowers. 

Snowdrops

Snowdrops usually appear in early November, depending on the climate. They’re an iconic symbol of winter with their white downturned droplet petals. They can even last as long as February but should definitely see you through Christmas. Snowdrops make a great addition to a winter garden and look great planted in flowerbeds and borders. English primrose

The English primrose is one of the best winter bloomers. It’s available in an array of colors and sizes and tends to start flowering from mid-winter onwards. They work well in a variety of environments so you can choose whether you plant them in flowerbeds, window boxes, hanging baskets, or other containers. They’re ideal for adding color to your patio or windows as well.

Hellebores

Also known as the Christmas rose, hellebores are stunning perennials that bloom from late winter to early spring. They are very sturdy flowers even though they appear delicate, and can withstand a variety of weather conditions. You can even plant hellebores as late as late winter in cooler climates. It will continue to bloom throughout the coldest months. Hellebores are easy to grow and a lovely addition to containers, shady borders, or even under trees or shrubs.

Winter jasmine

Last but not least winter jasmine can bloom throughout the cold season and will stand out nicely against the snow. Its warm buttery color really helps dispel any gloomy winter feeling.
