It’s Time to Deep Clean Your Home
Your home is the place that you spend most of your time. And, if you have family or like a lot of social events, many other people are there a lot too. There are some everyday things that we do to keep our homes clean. Vacuumings, general tidying, dusting, and in high traffic areas, we need to pay even more attention. But, you can do so much more in just 7 days. In fact, if you create a 7-day cleaning routine, you can do a really deep clean – one room at a time.
Most people like to start this in the springtime. The sunlight is flooding through the windows and highlights dirt, grime, dust, and a whole host of other things that the darker days of winter didn’t show you. You might have people coming to stay for awhile, or you might just really want to get it done. Every 6 months is the recommended length of time, but more people leave it much longer. If you are a speedy cleaner, then you won’t need the full 7 days, but that is for you to decide.
There are a couple of things that you should consider a professional for, one of them being upholstery cleaning, the other is deep carpet cleaning.
So let’s start where the food prep happens. The kitchen, of course! Although you have likely cleaned the kitchen every single day, due to the high traffic and the food cooking going on in there. It is time to spend a little more time on it.
Kitchen
Starting with the big stuff make absolute sense. Your oven, for example, probably needs some serious elbow grease. It is an excellent time to pick up some of the oven cleaning bags.
Fridges and freezers really need to be cleaned regularly too. Take everything out, and start scrubbing each shelf as carefully as you can. Really get into the corners. If you can pull the shelves out so you can get into the grooves too. Take out the drawers and clean in and around them. Soak them for a while, as sometimes they pick up the smell from certain foods.
Handles get grubby really quickly and like to host a range of germs so scrub them well too.
Microwaves aren’t too tricky. Fill a jug with water and some lemon juice. Let it run for around a minute or more. The steam will help all of the food lift and be scrubbed away much easier. The lemon juice will eliminate any nasty smells too. Warm soapy water is ideal also. Make sure that you dry it all properly before you use it again though.
Windows
Windex or vinegar works perfectly well to get your windows spic-and-span. But there is no harm booking a window cleaner if you don’t enjoy this job.
Bathroom
If you like to multitask, then put on a face mask, and hair mask and some music.
Bath / Shower / Sink
Get an old toothbrush and start scrubbing around taps, plugholes, and all the smaller details of the bathroom. If you have mildew, then get a removal product and let it soak for a while before you wipe it down.
Toilet
This is a job that people seem to hate, but it is better to stay on top of it – then there is less to do. Grab your favorite toilet cleaner, and/or bleach if that is what you like to use and let it get to work while you move on to the next job. Just remember that fumes aren’t great for you so it might be time to step out for you if you can’t air the room while you are doing it.
Cabinets Plus
It’s time to pull out the drawers of your bathroom storage. Get rid of the junk and give them a good clean. Get rid of your empty bottles, and now is the time to clean your bath mat, shower curtain, and any other ‘extras’ you have in there.
Bedrooms
Decluttering come before cleaning. So do yourself a favor and do that first. If you find there are stains, then you might like to use a baking soda mix to lift them out.
Beds
Flip the mattress, and put all of the bedding in the wash.
Drapes and blinds
If you have curtains, then take them down and give them a good wash. Replace them with ones that fit the current season. If you have blinds, then you will need to detail them yourself. You can get dusters that are shaped perfectly for cleaning blinds. So it might take a little while, but they’ll look great when you are done.
Shelving
A good minky cloth and some multi-purpose cleaner will see these looking perfect and clean in no time at all.
Windows
Windex or vinegar works perfectly well with newspaper to get them gleaming.
Livingroom
This high traffic area needs a lot of attention. So give it some love and a good scrub.
Sofa
If you have a fabric sofa, you might find that you have multiple stains. You can get these out with baking soda. Vacuum the couch, and then sprinkle some baking soda on the stains, leave for around 20 minutes, and then scrub it off with a brush.
Windows
Windex or vinegar works perfectly well to get your windows spic-and-span.
General
While you are deep cleaning, you have the perfect opportunity to check bulbs, sockets, dust books, and declutter. So use it well.
Don’t skip closets and other storage, because it just means you will have extra jobs later on. If you have linen cupboards, take everything out, clean the shelves, add scented liners, and then refold everything and put it back. If there are some that haven’t been used for a long time, then put them in the wash.
Test all of your smoke alarms, and check the batteries on your carbon monoxide alarm too. If in doubt, just replace all the batteries.
Do a room per day, over the space of a week, and your home will smell fantastic and look fabulous.

My apartment definitely needs a deep clean! It always makes me feel so much better, like a weight has been lifted .
