I’m So Cold At Home!

There is nothing more comforting than staying at home when the weather takes a turn for the worse. You’ve got your day already mentally planned, and you’re looking forward to enjoying some me-time in your cozy living room. So, of course, the last thing you expect is to feel cold. However, before you assume that there’s something wrong with your heating system or that your windows need replacing, you have to consider other reasons. Indeed, when you’ve cranked the heating to the max, and you’re still cold even though the indoor thermometer says otherwise, it’s time to think outside the box:

Your façade is dirty

Are your walls cold to the touch? Typically, when the walls are cold, it is a sign that you’ve got insulation issues. The outdoors temperatures penetrate through the walls. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have a leak in the foundation or a breach in the structure. In fact, more often than not, the accumulation of grime and dirt on the façade can provide grip to the rain or the snow, making it harder for the walls to maintain a consistent temperature. Your heating is drying up the air

When you overheat your home, you are at risk of drying out your air. The indoor air needs around 30% to 50% moisture to maintain healthy living conditions. When the air is too dry, aka when the humidity level is below 30%, the perceived temperature gets lower than what it actually is. Adding a humidifier could solve this.

Your meals lack vitamins

Sure, we get it. It’s cold and gray outside, and you’re too lazy to cook at the moment. But processed meals are not a solution. You need to prepare healthy meals, even when you’re short on time. Simple lunch preps can save the day and ensure you and your family still gets plenty of vitamins. Ultimately, the body needs nutrients to maintain its temperature.

You need more sleep

If you wake up feeling tired every morning, it’s a sign that you need more rest. While grabbing for a cup of coffee might get you through the day, it’s not helping your body fight off the physical signs of fatigue. Sleep deprivation lowers your body temperature, which makes it harder for you to stay warm. Make sure you get your 8 hours a day.

You’re feeling stressed

High stress levels can interfere with your immune system. Your body responds to stress with a flee or fight reaction, which puts a lot of pressure on your immune system. As a consequence, it can’t regulate your temperature, making it tricky for you to get warm even in a heated room. You can also experience a similar phenomenon when you struggle with mood swings or depressive disorder. Sometimes addressing your mental health issues can help to tackle the cold sensation.

Nobody enjoys feeling cold. However, more often than not, the smallest changes in your diet or home maintenance can keep the cold sensation at bay and give you the cozy interior you crave.
