How to Make a DIY Middle School Survival Kit Grad Gift with Free Printable Gift Tags
When your kid graduates from elementary school and is ready to make the big leap to middle school, it can seem a little scary. New school, new friends, a bigger schedule and a lot more responsibility. It is important to prepare them for this big adjustment, but it is also fun to celebrate their achievement! A fun way to celebrate your grad growing up and taking the leap from elementary school to middle school is to create an easy DIY middle school survival kit. This easy to make DIY middle school survival kit is made of kids favorite snacks and treats with a cute printable gift tag that plays on the words of the treats. Kids love the silly play on words, and will appreciate the encouragement in the message (and enjoy the treats). This is the perfect graduation gift idea for your new middle schooler! Here is how to make a DIY middle school survival kit grad gift for your kid.
To create a DIY middle school survival kit, simply download my free printable gift tag at the bottom of this post and attach it to a small gift bag using a hole punch and some twine. The gift tag plays on the names and types of snacks and treats to say positive and encouraging messages for your new middle schooler. You can write your kids name and their class year on the tag as well. The gift tag reads:
Love your friends to PIECES. Remember, you are one smart COOKIE. Always go the EXTRA mile. CommitMINT to your homework always pays off. You can make LEMONADE out of lemons. CHIP in and help others. Be a NERD, its ok. And know your parents can be real LIFESAVERS!
You will need to buy a snack or treat item for each of the words on the gift tag. For this kit, using my gift tag, you will need Reese’s Pieces, cookies, EXTRA gum, Andes mints, something lemonade flavored, chips, nerds, and lifesavers. You can select any type of cookies and chips and lemonade, but the other items are specific to certain candies.
One you have all the supplies, put them in your gift bag, hole punch the gift tag, tie it to the bag, and add some tissue paper. That is all it takes to make this super easy DIY middle school survival kit grad gift!
I like to use plain kraft gift bags and white tissue paper, but you could select colors that match the schools colors as well. The simplicity of this gift makes it easy to put together last minute, yet the kids will surely appreciate the sentiment and the tasty treats in their DIY middle school survival kit grad gift.

What a great way to acknowledge a fun yet nervous time in a child’s life! I like doing something like this at the beginning of each school year, but am going to have to remember to do something bigger at the milestone years like this!
