How to Design a Farmhouse Kitchen
The kitchen is a focal point of the house for a lot of people. It’s a place for cooking meals and getting the family together to eat, and a lot of people use it as an entertaining space as well, so it’s important that you get the decor right but also make sure your kitchen is functional. A farmhouse kitchen can be tricky to design because it combines a lot of different decor styles like rustic, vintage, and cottage. Blending all of those styles together and balancing them properly, while also trying to create a functional kitchen, is a big task to take on. If you’re trying to design a farmhouse kitchen and you’re a bit lost, here are a few important things that you’ve got to remember.
Repair your Appliances
You need to make sure your appliances are in good working condition so that you can have a functional kitchen you can spend your time. If your not ready to buy new appliances, it’s best to hire a reliable appliance repair company who can make sure things are in working order.
Wooden Accents
Wood is a great material to use in a farmhouse kitchen but it’s important that you use it sparingly. If you go overboard with it, you’ll end up with a more rustic looking kitchen and it won’t have the homely farmhouse feel that you’re looking for. Exposed wooden beams are a great addition and hardwood floors work very well too, but you shouldn’t use things like reclaimed wooden wall panels, for example.
Lighted Kitchen Cabinets
When you’re picking kitchen cabinets, you should try to find something light like a cream or a white or maybe some lighter pastel shades. These will balance the darker wood very well and make sure that the room feels light and airy. It’s always best to head down to a kitchen showroom and have a look at the different cabinets they have available. If possible, take a photo of the wooden beams and flooring so you can try to match the color with them. When you’re choosing kitchen cabinets, it’s always a good idea to look into custom cabinets because they make more effective use of space.
Old Fashioned Touches
If you add a modern cooker to your farmhouse kitchen, you’ll ruin the overall aesthetic of it so it’s best to find an old fashioned one instead. You’ve got a few options here, you could buy a second hand cooker but you may be worried about energy efficiency and reliability etc. But there are some modern cookers that have an old fashioned style so you get the best of both worlds. This is often the best choice because old fashioned cookers aren’t that reliable and you’ll end up spending more on energy bills.
Farmhouse Style Decor
It’s not just the big fixtures that you need to think about when you’re designing a farmhouse kitchen, you need to consider the small decorations as well. It’s those little details that really bring the whole thing together and finish the overall look. Things like a nice farmhouse tray on the dining table or some vintage wooden signs around the kitchen are simple ways to bring the aesthetic of the farmhouse kitchen together. Just remember to choose items carefully and be sparing with them so the room doesn’t get too cluttered.
These are the basic concepts that you need to follow if you want to create the perfect farmhouse kitchen.
