How Clean Is Your House? Shocking Facts About Pests
We all love showing off our nice and clean house, but what if we have pests we don’t even know about? They are not only annoying, but also harmful for our health, and can cause damage. At the same time, they are hard to spot. Whenever you are cleaning your home, you should always make sure that you are checking the dark and damp places for signs of pest infestation. Below you will find a few things you might not have known about pests around the house.
Bed Bug Infestation Is More Common Than You Think
No matter how well you clean your bedding and mattress, you can never be safe from bed bugs. You might think that bed bugs are only present in communal areas, hotels, and dirty hostels, but this is not true. They are fast to spread, and hard to get rid of. You will need a microscope to spot them, which means they might be there without you knowing.
Rodents Contaminate Food with Saliva and Droppings
Apart from the sight and the fright, rodents can seriously damage your health. When you are not around, they will contaminate your food and surfaces with their droppings and saliva. So if you think that you have found signs of pests, it is better to be safe than sorry and get rid of everything that is not in an airtight container.
Termites Cause Millions of Dollars of Damage Every Year
Termites are not only making your wooden furniture and fittings unsightly, but can also cause serious damage to your property and the structural stability of your home. The sooner you spot them, the better chance you will have to stop them from eating away your home. It might be a good idea to talk to professional exterminators so you can check on your home regularly and prevent termites from taking over your home.
A Tidy Kitchen Will Not Keep Pests Away
There is a common misconception that if you keep your kitchen clean and tidy, you will be able to keep pests away. This is far from the truth. No matter how thorough your spring cleaning is, you can still get pests. Natural pesticides might work up to an extent, such as boric acid powder, but you will have a hard time to spot creepy crawlies during the daytime without special equipment.
What You Can’t See Can Still Be There
One of the most challenging things about home pest control is that rodents and bugs are very sensitive to movements and light, so they will stay hidden when you are around. It might be a good idea to lay traps or sprinkle flour on the floor or on surfaces, so you can find out what is going on in your home when you are not around.
To keep your home clean and safe from pest infestation, it is important that you know how to spot the signs and get a professional to look for less obvious hiding places you might not even have thought about checking.

I agree to it, pests are pests, even if you clean 24/7 you might still see one crawling in your legs.. Yikes…!

I read this article with the fear that I may never sleep again thinking of everything that may be lurking without me knowing! We had a bed bug infestation in our old apartment. We spread borax everywhere in the apartment- especially in between the mattress and box spring. The house was a mess with powder everywhere – all carpets, upholstered furniture, closets, etc. for two weeks, but we persevered. Thankfully it worked.
