How Can You Improve Your Home’s Privacy?
Home is such a personal space- it’s your retreat from the world, the place where you should feel at your most safe and comfortable. So if you’re overlooked, or forever have people from the street peering in as they walk past if can be annoying to say the least. Here are a few ways you can gain back some privacy in and around your home.
Install blinds
Blinds are a great investment for your home; they keep it shaded from the heat of the sun in summer, allow you to adjust the light and also give you privacy. They look smart and are customisable so you can have them as open or closed as you want depending on what you’re doing. Blinds can be fairly expensive, especially if you’re having them professionally measured, made and installed. But they’re an expense that will definitely pay off, especially when it comes to privacy.
Consider window tinting
Window tinting is a great way to gain privacy but without blocking out light. You could have half or all of your windows frosted which prevents people from being able to see in. If you find blinds are blocking out too much light or that adjusting them each day is a bit of a pain then home window tinting is a great alternative. It’s inexpensive and effective.
Grow trees
If your back garden is overlooked, growing some large trees not only looks nice but prevents people from being able to easily look in. Be sure to plant them at the bottom of your garden as large tree roots can damage house foundations if they’re planted too close. And you don’t want to be blocking out too much light. If you want coverage sooner rather than later, choose fast growing tree varieties or purchase trees in pots which are already grown. It will cost more buying large trees that are already grown but will instantly give you the privacy you’re after.
Have a fence installed
A fence is a quick and easy way to improve your security as well as your privacy. If you don’t currently have a fence or the one you have is low, installing a 6ft variety is a great option. You could even buy trellises to put along the top of these kinds of fences to give another foot or two to the height- perfect for overlooked back gardens.
No one wants strangers looking into their home, not only is it uncomfortable but it can be a security issue too. Thankfully, few simple changes can be all that’s needed.
