Family Camping at Lake Easton State Park {Easton, WA}

Lake Easton State Park is a popular family campground located in Western Washington just a couple hours from Seattle off the I-90. Lake Easton is all about activities, whether its paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, swimming, or biking, this park is perfect for them all. The swim area has a large playground just a few steps away, and while the roped off swim area is only moderate in size, the day use area spans a woodsy area of picnic tables and grass to allow plenty of room for families to spread out. In addition, the campground loop sits atop a river that allows for fun nature walks with a beautiful view of the river and small dam at the end. Take a look at our recent visit to Lake Easton State Park and get ready to plan your own camping trip to this fun family campground!

Campground Info

The park has 90 standard campsites, 45 full-hookup sites, two hiker / biker sites, one dump station, four restrooms (three ADA), and four showers (two ADA). All sites are in a wooded setting. Most tent sites are near the Yakima River, and most RV spaces are near Lake Easton. Tents must be placed within the designated tent pad. The park can accommodate RV units up to 60 feet in select sites. Some sites will accommodate tip-outs.

Lake Easton’s campgrounds are set on the north side of the park close to Interstate 90. As such, they are subject to highway noise. Earplugs are recommended for light sleepers.

Winter camping is available in the day-use area from Dec. 1 through March 31 for $12. A Sno-Park Permit is also required to camp during the winter. (source)

The campground is wooded and shaded, providing a cool retreat from the sun. While some of the sites are close together and noisy, if you pick a spot along the river the sites are larger, more private, and farther from the noise of I90. The bathrooms are clean and have individual shower stalls at the rear. The showers use tokens, which can be purchased at the check-in booth.

Pop-Up Camping

This campground has plenty of room for pop-up camping. The loop we stayed in did not have hookups, but there is an alternate loop with hookups available. The sites along the trail down to the river had plenty of room for a pop-up. There are even a few pull-through sites.

Park Amenities

Beach, Playground & Boat Launch

The day-use area is located a bit away from the campground loop, you could make the trek, but we opted to load up the car and drive down for the afternoon. There is a lot for a small boat launch, and a separate lot for the day-use beach area. They are connected by a trail so you can walk between them. The day-use area has a roped off swim area and sandy beach, with plenty of grass to spread out on. You can also swim along the shoreline near the swim area; you’ll need to go down a small incline to reach the water. There are picnic tables shaded by trees overlooking this part of the shore.

Kayaking and Water Activities

Lake Easton is a calm lake that makes using small watercraft like kayaks and paddle boards fun and easy to do. We had fun kayaking around the shoreline, and playing in beach floaties. You can easily launch your kayaks at the boat launch, or carry them down to the water in the day-use area.

Hiking Trail

You can take a beautiful, easy hike around the lake while you are here. It is about a 5 mile walk, fairly level. Its a beautiful hike with gorgeous views of the lake!

Family-Friendly Camp Loop

The campground loop is pretty calm. Its perfect for walking or riding bikes. You can access a river by taking a short trail from the camp loop. While you are on the trail, try a nature hike game or pick up some rocks to paint back at the campground. We enjoyed this trail and the river so we walked it several times during our stay.

Happy Camping!
