Easy Ways To Insulate Your Home Properly All Year Round

Insulating your home properly is so important because it helps to keep the house warm in the winter and it also helps to cool things down when the weather is hot. If the insulation in your house is lacking, you’re going to be too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. It also means that your energy bills will be a lot higher than they need to be because the house is hard to keep warm. Adding new insulation to the walls is the most effective way to maintain a good temperature in your home, but it’s also very expensive and invasive, so you want to avoid that if you can. Luckily, there are a lot of other things that you could try instead. These are some of the easiest ways to improve the insulation in your home.

Get Rid Of Drafts

If you have a very drafty house, it’s going to be hard to maintain a good temperature. It’s not too much of a problem in the summer and a draft might be welcome in the hot weather, but when winter comes, you’ll need to get rid of those drafts. You can do simple things like putting draft excluders underneath the doors and putting a brush in the letterbox, but sometimes, you might need to do a bit more extensive work. Wooden windows are a big source of drafts because the seals wear down over time and the wood starts to degrade. If you fill the gaps in the wood and replace the seals, you should notice a big difference. If you have wooden flooring in the house, you might get drafts coming through the gaps, so you should try to fill those with some sawdust and resin as well. Eliminating all of the drafts in the house should make a big difference and sometimes, you won’t need to do anything else.

Upgrade Windows

In an older property, it’s often the windows that are causing problems. As we already mentioned, you can fill gaps and fix the seals to improve insulation but if the windows are old and they’re only single pane, they’re not going to insulate the house very well at all. In that case, it’s best to get a windows replacement service in to upgrade them all for you. Modern windows don’t require as much maintenance and they’re far more energy efficient so they’ll keep the house a lot cooler in the summer and also keep the heat in when it’s cold.

Attic Insulation

Putting insulation into the walls can be a big job but it’s a lot easier to put it into the attic. As long as you have easy access to the attic, you can just use rolls of insulation up there that are simple to put in yourself. A lot of air comes through the roof so the attic is often the biggest source of heat transfer in the home. But if you just put some insulation up there, you should notice a big difference in the home.

These simple changes around the home should improve your insulation a lot and help you to maintain a good temperature in your home all year round.
