DIY Hawaiian “Aloha” Themed Kid’s Backyard Birthday Party
ALOHA! That means hello in Hawaiian if you didn’t know – and hello to this cute Hawaiian “Aloha” themed kids backyard birthday party that was thrown by my cousins this past year for their daughter. This party theme was so cute that I couldn’t help but write about it and share it on my blog. My cousins are the most amazing party planners I know, so anytime they host a party I know it will be super cute, and this party certainly took the cake! A special thank you goes out to them for allowing me to share this amazing DIY Hawaiian Aloha themed backyard birthday party with my readers. Take a look at how this DIY Aloha Hawaiian themed kid’s backyard birthday party tuned out!
Aloha Party Backdrop
I think I have mentioned previously before that the key to any amazing party is a beautifully decorated food and beverage area as your party backdrop. It really sets the tone for the rest of the party when a food and beverage area has been decorated to match the party theme. Not only does it look cute, but it adds fun and festiveness when the party theme is brought to life with food and drinks and makes for the perfect background for pretty photos. This food and beverage station is decorated in the Hawaiian Aloha spirit to the tee, with grass skirts wrapping the tables, colorful paper decor fans and plastic leis lining the hut, and gold balloons spelling out A-L-O-H-A as the focal point. A perfect backyard birthday party set up! I have linked all these party supplies at the end of this post.
The party favors (plastic leis) are incorporated into the decor as well. They are strung above the cupcake stand, ready for guests to put on when they enter the party.
Aloha Party Food
To make this party really shout ALOHA the party food had some Hawaiian flair. Pizza was available for the kids, but the main party food included pulled pork sandwiches on Hawaiian rolls, a Hawaiian mac salad and a Hawaiian style coleslaw. And for a cute and sweet side, watermelon on a stick is just the treat to serve for this festive outdoor Aloha themed backyard birthday party. And of course, fresh pineapple to snack on!
A festive Hawaiian Aloha juice is served in pineapple shaped cups with curly straws. The color of the drink and the cups are so perfectly Aloha! And besides looking adorable on display, these cups were given to the guests to take home as party favors as well. The kids looked so cute carrying these pineapple cups around the yard. Don’t forget to write their names in sharpie so they don’t get mixed up.
Even the cupcakes are festive and full of Hawaiian Aloha spirit – served in pineapple and gold striped cupcake liners and topped with flamingo and palm tree cupcake toppers. Check out the end of the post to links for these cute cupcake toppers.
Aloha Party Activities & Games
This party was thrown for a young child outdoors, so games and activities were planned to be simple enough for little’s to participate. This included a flamingo ring toss game – oh so adorably set up in a little wading pool, a cute “Happy Birthday” photo-booth area created with bright and festive Aloha colors, and lots of hula dancing fun with Hawaiian tunes playing in the background (the kids all wearing their grass skirts and leis of course).
What a super cute party this Hawaiian Aloha theme turned out to be for a kid’s backyard birthday party! An Aloha themed birthday party is such a colorful and happy theme, and there are so many ways you could adjust this party to fit the likes and interests of your child’s age. Just don’t forget the leis! And if you are planning on throwing your own DIY Hawaiian Aloha themed kid’s backyard birthday party, check out my shopping guide below.

Looks like such a fun themed party! All the food looked great for sure. I would love the pulled pork sandwiches and the coleslaw looked delicious and I’m not even a big coleslaw fan. The favors looked like a whole lot of fun as well.

What a brilliant party theme – I love it! My daughter’s birthday is in March so it’s not an option for her birthday as it will be too cold, but I think we might have to give this party theme a go in summer!

I remember having a few Hawaiian-themed pool parties when I was growing up! My birthday is in February, so even in Florida it was too chilly for a pool party. But, my sister and I were known for having the end-of-the-school-year pool party bash at our house every summer, and we often did Hawaiian themed! I like the more muted colors, though, instead of the bright colors we always did.
