Bookroo {an updated review of all 3 boxes}

I previously reviewed Bookroo for my 5 year old here. This time I’m taking a look at all 3 subscription boxes.

1. Early-readers (age 7-10)

2. Picture books (age 2-6)

3. Board books (age 0-2)

Lets start with Emily’s box. This box is geared towards children age 7-10. Like the other boxes, the books come individually wrapped (which is so very exciting for children at any age!) Emily is 11, so I knew these books would be easy readers for her but we wanted to check them out anyways.

The first book is “A Dragon’s Guide to the Care and Feeding of Humans,” by Laurence Yep and Joanne Ryder. Emily read the book quickly and thought it was a super cute story, full of fun and magic! This story is easily enjoyed by the whole family, and we are now reading it aloud to Ashlyn. The tale is told by a centuries-old dragon who thinks humans are pets, and both the dragon and her pet human (who thinks of the dragon as the pet of course) learn lessons of life and loss in this charming story. If you love magic, friendship, and dragons, this book will definitely entertain! Emily thought it was very enjoyable, even at 11!

The second book in this months box is “Basil of Baker Street (The Great Mouse Detective),” by Eve Titus. We have yet to read this book, but we are all excited to share this version of a classic tale! It looks like another book that we will enjoy as a family!

Ashlyn was very excited to open her books this month, having enjoyed last months so much. Her box is geared towards age 2-6.

The first book is “The Snatchabook,” by Helen Docherty. From the rhyming to the illustrations this book has quickly become another of Ashlyn’s favorites. The story is heartwarming, as it tells of a small creature called a “Snatchabook” who must steal books through the night because he has no mom or dad of his own to read him bedtime stories until the main character, Eliza Brown (from Burrow Down) comes up with a solution. The Snatchabook must return all of the missing books and then is invited to share bedtime stories with all the families in Burrow Down from then-on. This book had such a VERY cute, yet unique and interesting plot; and we both enjoyed it very much and look forward to reading it again and again!

The second book in Ashlyn’s box is “Monster & Son,” by David LaRochelle. Another cute story with rhymes (we LOVE rhyming picture books in our home) that is both silly and lovable. In this story your kiddo will see that monsters and humans aren’t so different, because in they end they all love their children. Skeletons, vampires, even mummies and creatures from the black lagoon show their love as they play, talk, and giggle together. Nothing in the book specifies the monster or child as male or female, so the story can be enjoyed by all in your family as the story really showcases the love of a caregiver/parent and child.

Ashlyn, again, loves both her books and has requested them several times as her bedtime books. I love these books and am very happy to be adding them to our collection!

And of course, little brothers turn to see his new books! Arlo’s box has a suggested age of 0-2.

To begin, his sisters tore open his package and took turns showing him each book.

The first book (there are 3 in the BOARD BOX), is “Russell the Sheep,” by Rob Scotton. The book is softly illustrated with a sweet bedtime tale of Russell the Sheep, who just cannot fall asleep. After trying everything, he finally counts 10 sheep, and when he counts the tenth sheep (himself), he falls sound asleep asleep. This was a very sweet new bedtime story for Arlo!

The second book is “Shapes,” by Katie Wilson. You can never have enough educational board books, and this book is no exception! Beautiful watercolor styled illustrations count 1-10 with 10 different shapes, using actual objects for each shape. For example, rectangle houses, trapezoid kitty cats, and triangle trees, just to name a few. I really enjoyed the use of objects as shapes and the beautiful illustrations! Arlo also enjoyed them!

We loved the unique use of shapes in this book. For example, honeycombs as hexagons! The colors are so bright and beautiful as well.

Finally, a cute pumpkin themed book for fall called “I Love You, Little Pumpkin,” by Sandra Magsamen. This book is a lift the flap rhyming board book that ends each rhyme with a verse about your little one. One example in the book is “Who’s peeking out from behind that door?” Lift the flap and: “It’s my little kitty whom I adore!” Behind the flap is an illustration of a child in a kitty costume. What a sweet cuddly little fall/dress-up themed book!

A look at all the books from all three boxes this month. What a beautiful collection of stories!

Storytime is such a relaxing time of night for my children. We love to share the tales and pictures inside all the wonderful books in the world. What I love about Bookroo is that even the books from boxes meant for the other children in the home can really be shared by all. Emily likes to read the younger books to her siblings, Ashlyn enjoys listening to Emily’s books, and Arlo is fascinated by the pictures of his older sisters books. What I enjoy, as a parent, is knowing that every month new and exciting books are being delivered to my children to cherish and enjoy. I do not have to comb the bookstores for the perfect story, instead I am confident that Bookroo has done all the searching for me and is sending only the best, most unique, age-appropriate books to our home. My children are all excited to open their boxes every month, and that makes reading an even more special and happy time for them. I truly hope to foster a lifetime love of learning and reading in my children, and Bookroo is definitely a subscription service that will aid in that effort! I give them two, BIG THUMBS UP for all three of their boxes! If you are interested in signing up head over to Bookroo, using any of my links will save you 15%!
