Annual Housekeeping Tasks It’s So Easy To Forget

As a homeowner, there are so many tasks to keep on top of that it can legitimately be very easy to forget a responsibility or two along the way. How are we supposed to keep up with it all? Well, regardless of how or why we might forget, it’s important to remind ourselves of a few tasks that are extra important. Here are your annual errands that you can’t allow yourself to neglect.

Clean the gutters

This is best done twice a year, rather than just once. Once in the spring, and one in the fall, before the bad weather starts coming up. Cleaning your gutter stops it from getting blocked by leaves, twigs, dirt, and debris. When the gutters get clogged, it means that water that falls onto your roof isn’t able to go down the spout as it should. When that happens, it looks for the path of least resistance, which sometimes means opening a crack in your wall and infiltrating the home.

Inspect the electrics

First of all, check the age and the effectiveness of the major appliances around the home, such as the fridge, washing machine, and so on. Is it time to replace them with a more cost-efficient model? If so, it might be time to start budgeting. Otherwise, it’s just a good idea to get a master electrician out to the house at least once a year to fully inspect the electrics of the home. You don’t want to give any hidden flaws the opportunity to get more serious or dangerous.

Don’t neglect that HVAC

As with the electrics, your heating, air conditioning, and ventilation benefit from regular servicing. A heating specialist will not only make sure that nothing’s wrong with the system, they will also do the routine maintenance that ensures it’s as efficient as it can be. Naturally, it’s best to have your AC checked before the summer and to have your heating checked before the winter. That way, you can ensure that you stay in control of the climate in the home no matter what spin the weather outside takes.

Clear the clutter

It might not be as vital as the others, but when you’re doing your spring clean, it’s wise to take the time to organize your storage and find what can be thrown out. When clutter builds up, not only does it make the home more unsightly and uncomfortable. It also increases the amount of work you will have to do to keep it clean. After all, clutter attracts dust and debris. Save yourself a lot of effort throughout the year. Go through each room and each storage area to inventorize the items inside then find out what you could say goodbye to. Sell or donate what you can, but get rid of the rest regardless.

The safety of the home and the comfort of everyone living in it necessitates that you have to keep up with every task mentioned above. Don’t worry, it’s just once a year, after all!
