A Cozy Outdoor Family Movie Night with Joss & Main

Hosting parties is something I love to do – but until recently most of our parties have been indoors. If you have been following along, you know that last year we stained and repainted our tired old deck, and earlier this year we covered our deck with a DIY pergola. The final touch for our outdoor space was to add a cozy fire pit and some accessories to create the ultimate cozy outdoor space for entertaining! With the help of my friends at Joss & Main, I picked the perfect fire pit and rug to cozy up our space. My family and I then enjoyed our first outdoor family movie night in our cozy new outdoor space! And, what better way to celebrate this Memorial Day weekend than with friends and family gathered around the fire pit for a cozy movie night? With the right outdoor pieces you can host your own cozy outdoor family movie night that your friends and family are sure to enjoy!

Disclaimer: Thank you Joss & Main for sponsoring this post. As always, all opinions remain 100% my own.

Creating a Cozy Outdoor Space

To cozy up our outdoor space, I knew I wanted a pretty neutral rug and a large gas fire pit. Our outdoor space is a raised deck, so I felt a gas fire pit would work best for this space. I put together a styleboard before deciding which rug and fire pit to use to update the space, it was a very hard decision with so many beautiful choices from Joss & Main to choose from!

Ultimately I decided on this beautiful concrete gas fire pit, and I am so glad because I love the style and size! My home is a farmhouse cottage style with modern touches, and this fire pit works perfectly for my outdoor space while staying within my preferred style!

This neutral ivory and black striped rug is the perfect companion for it, too! Mine is 5×8′ for reference.

The overall look of our outdoor space feels so inviting and cozy now! I love how mixing the concrete fire pit with a striped rug, metal and neutral colored sectional, and various concrete and metal accents all works so beautifully together.

Other details to cozy up our outdoor space include potted topiaries and plants, neutral color pillows with stripes and mixed textures, tables with mixed metals and wood, and concrete planters.

Hosting an Outdoor Movie Night

Once you have your outdoor area situated, hosting an outdoor movie night is easy! Simply prepare some snacks and a s’mores station, popcorn, and drinks!

I like to put my s’more supplies in a tray, ready to go. I have this tray lined with parchment paper for easy clean up later.

Now turn that fire pit on and get ready for some fun! I threw my kids our first outdoor movie night, and they had a blast!

I gave each kid a bowl of popcorn and their own soda pop to start our outdoor movie night fun. With the fire pit on, the kids got toasty warm and enjoyed their snacks.

Next, we made s’mores. It is so fun when you have s’mores at your outdoor movie night – at least my kids think so! I am pretty sure my kids would roast s’mores all night if they could. This fire pit works so perfect for toasting s’mores!

With the kids happily munching on snacks galore, the movie night can begin. The fire pit keeps us all warm and cozy while we sit back and relax and enjoy the movie on our cozy outdoor patio.

We set up an outdoor screen and movie projector and put on one of our favorite family movies!

With the fire pit keeping us warm and cozy we sat and enjoyed our first outdoor family movie night in our home! We are looking forward to many more this summer with friends and family now that our outdoor space is so cozy!

Now all we need are some good movie recommendations for this summer – feel free to leave some good movie ideas for us in the comments!

You did a beautiful job. Love all of it but am working on throw pillows for my outdoor living space and LOVE the floral & criss-crossed tie pillows. Do you mind sharing where you got those?

    Thanks!

I like the idea of the gas fire pit in the night while sitting around chatting outside, it indeed makes it cozy and not such a chilly night. By the way, it looks amazing with the colors and trees!

Your outdoor space looks so inviting. I would spend hours sitting there and enjoying a good book. Me and my family usually have movie nights but never tried having it outdoors. I must suggest it to them.

Your outdoor space looks so inviting! That rug fits perfect and I love the firepit. I don’t have a lot of pillows and decor on our outdoor furniture because the wind gets a bit crazy here sometimes and blows just the cushions around, and those are heavy!

  • Shane Prather

Too much fun! I love staying at home on early summer nights and cuddling up around a movie with s’mores! Kiddos look to love it!

  • Kate

Wow, an outdoor movie night sounds like so much fun! We like to spend time outside when the weather is good – but you can never tell when that will be in the UK lol!

  • Daisha

Your deck looks so inviting! Hopefully we will be moving soon and I would love to have a deck I could create a getaway space like this on. My children love movie night in our living room, I never thought to take it outdoors. How fun!

OHH YES! This is awesome. My husband and I will SO do this when we buy our forever home. We bought and moved into our current home last year but after living here almost a year, we realize that this is NOT the home we are going to spend a long period of time in, which means these sorts of updates won’t happen here. But we are gathering LOTS of ideas for our next spot, and I am adding THIS idea to the list 🙂
